In eastern Senegal, there are areas where you can :

  • Go in groups for open field hunting of small game, in particular francolins, hares and guinea fowls
  • Hunt alone in a stationary position for doves, palmyra pigeons and green pigeons.
  • Go bird game hunting for gangas in the morning, or at dusk in the various streams.
  • Go still-hunting for warthogs.

Visit the Fort de Bakel, built in 1818 under Faidherbe, who wanted the town to become the main base for countering resistance from dissidents.

Hiking and Trekking

Go trekking and hiking in faraway places, forests, savannah vegetation and waterfalls in the heart of fabulous landscapes. Bedik and Bassari, in “Fulani” land, offer a varied range of opportunities to meet the people and to go hiking and trekking on plateaus, hills, and valleys. A trip to Bassari land is an unforgettable experience for tourists who love to spend quiet moments with nature. This remote area lets you into another civilization and indigenous tribes that are directly and constantly in contact with their environment. Visit the Niokolo Koba National Park in the company of a licensed guide who knows the terrain, its fauna and flora. Get a close experience with about 350 species of birds and 80 species of mammals - lions, leopards and elephants, buffalos, hippos, monkeys, antelopes and crocodiles in rivers. Some rare species like the giant eland are there also for you to see.

The Bakel Fort

The Bakel Fort, best known as the Faidherbe Fort, was built between 1818 and 1819. This 190-year-old Fort, one of the World Heritage sites, is perched on a hill that overlooks the town and offers a superb panorama and beautiful view on River Senegal.
