Traditional wrestling

Traditional wrestling shows are one of the moments most deeply rooted in Senegalese culture. In Sine Saloum, these shows are primarily a festive occasion after the harvest, at the end of the rainy season. Amid the drumming, singing and dancing, and before the wresting bout actually begins, each wrestler performs elaborate mystical rites that are intended to ward off bad luck. And all this takes place before the audience that is gathered to cheer the wrestlers on with extraordinary fervor.
