Popenguine

About 70 km from Dakar, Popenguine is a peaceful village, nestled on the cliffs of Cap de Nazé, bordered by a beautiful beach.

Its name is associated with the Marian sanctuary of Our Lady of Deliverance, which sees many Christians on pilgrimage converge each year, precisely on the weekend of Pentecost. It houses a black Madonna which was blessed by Pope John Paul II in 1992.

The locality also has a nature reserve with nearly 200 species of birds.
