The pointe des Almadies is a rocky cape in Senegal, located in the north-west of the peninsula of Cap-Vert. It is the westernmost point of the continent africain2 (17° 32' west longitude). Its name has its origin in the word Almadie itself of Arabic origin (Al Mahdi).

The tip is protected by a barrier of rocks. These reefs to the surface of the water are known as Pavement Almadies. A lighthouse warning the boats, but many wrecks testify of the tragedies of the past.
